Facing my Fears: The Long Overdue End to my 30/30 Bday Challenge

In honor of turning 30 back on September 1st, I decided to spend 30 days doing one new thing a day. While the challenge ended almost two months ago, I am only now getting around to blogging about the last two days. Turns out being 30 is keeping me quite busy! But since it came to a close with a fairly “blogworthy” Day 30 challenge, I had to share it here. Read on to find out what the last day of my challenge had in store.  Continue reading

30/30 Bday Challenge Week 4

In honor of turning 30 this year, I’ve challenged myself to do one new thing a day for 30 days: the 30/30 Birthday Challenge. It’s not always easy to find something new to do, but I’ve managed to pull it off. Read below to see what new things Week 4 had in store for me: Continue reading

Fracawesome: When Things Don’t Go According to Plan

Today marked the 28th day of my 30/30 Bday Challenge and despite having a lot of work I needed to get done, I drug myself out of the house to go watch the sunset from a place that I was told was the *best* place to see the sun set in Madrid (not the Egyptian Templo de Debod, which is a great place, but since I’d already seen the sunset from that location before I was in search of a nearby park where it’s supposed to be even more spectacular). Unfortunately, after nearing the place I thought it was and bumping up against a few dead ends, I started to realize that the sun was going to be gone in the next ten minutes and I was lost and unable to find the park I was looking for. I was annoyed, a little mad at myself and worried because…now what was my new thing going to be? I started wandering back towards home, looking out at the sunset I was missing out on and then it hit me.. Continue reading

30/30 Bday Challenge Week 3

It’s been a tough week to carry out the 30/30 Bday Challenge because I had to include international travel (14 hours), jet lag, apartment searching, and organizing my work schedule to my list of things to take care of as well. I’m also trying to save money so my options here in Madrid have been limited, but it’s also reminded me that Madrid is a great city to find free things to do.  Continue reading

30/30 Bday Challenge: Week 2!

I’m turning 30 next week and in honor of this milestone birthday, I’m choosing to embrace the ageing process by doing one new thing everyday for 30 days (The 30/30 Bday Challenge, an idea which to the best of my knowledge I came up with myself). You can read more about how I got inspired to do the challenge on my week 1 post. And here’s a recap of how week 2 went.  Continue reading

Why I Accepted the Ice Bucket Challenge

I went back and forth about whether or not I was going to participate in the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge if someone challenged me. At first I thought “Of course I’d do it! It’s for a great cause!” and I was further encouraged when I heard just how much money the ALS association had earned thanks to the Ice Bucket Challenge and the subsequent increase in awareness about the disease. But in the past week, with the challenge being featured on all major talk shows, celebrities posting videos and my Facebook news feed flooding with #icebucketchallenge, it started to seem that the challenge was getting out of hand and possibly turning into a game,  Continue reading

Five Reasons to Vote for Me in the Big Blog Exchange

Something I´m loving about my 30/30 Birthday Challenge is how my openness to trying one new thing a day is taking me places I hadn´t imagined when I first came up with the idea. On some days my original plan of the new thing I was going to try has had a sort of domino effect, leading me to try several new things all in one day. On other days it´s led me to conversations that have left me reflecting, smiling, or in the case of today…creating a new challenge!

When one of my Facebook friends saw on my original 30/30 post that I hadn´t ever been able to complete my original plan of walking all of Alki like I´d planned to on day 4 she got in touch with me and asked if I´d like to go for the walk with her. And among several great topics that came up during this walk was that of ¨The Big Blog Exchange.¨

Hosteling International is hosting a worldwide competition amongst bloggers. Continue reading
